These data, based both on internal and external features show that these ammonoids share homologies with the rest of the Ammonoidea, in possessing similar embryonic shell characters. The actual character states are different, allowing for further phylogenetic analysis. The presence of similar features supports the notion that all ammonoid shells probably shared a common mode of formation; as one would expect in a monophyletic clade. We suggest that the mode is non-accretionary based on previous models as well as data on the surface details of primitive ammonoids.
